Membership

Membership is earned by taking part, not bought.

StableUpdated This work has settled. We still welcome corrections.

algn is free to use, with no subscription. Low-power mode is text conversation only, and needs no credits. Credits are for everything else, from advanced features to more capable models. Every member gets free credits, and more for taking part. Want more? Buy them as you go.

Your level is different. It rises only with participation. Each level opens more of algn, and more say in how it’s run.

Most platforms charge for access, then profit from your attention. Here, money buys more features. Never more influence.

What membership is

  • Free to use
  • Earned by taking part
  • Free credits for advanced features
  • More features and say at each level
  • Paid work at the top, for real responsibility

What it isn't

  • A subscription or paywall
  • Influence you can buy
  • Raised by what you spend
  • The same for everyone
  • An investment, or a share in the company

Culture is set early and hard to change. So algn grows slowly, and standing is earned.

beneath the surface

Your level is set by participation, so how participation is counted matters. Four rules shape it.

Activity, never content. Participation is counted from activity, totalled day by day: that you had conversations with Sera, posted, commented, took part in the community. What you actually said never counts, and never leaves your device to be scored. Your private conversations stay private even from the system that sets your level.

Quality over volume. Quick actions, like reacting to a post, count for a little, up to a small daily limit. Substantive contributions count for much more: a considered reply, a post other members engage with properly, work that helps the community. You can’t reach a higher level by tapping more.

No streaks. There are no daily streaks, no “don’t break the chain” rewards, and nothing lost by stepping away for a week. Rewards that punish you for leaving are exactly the engagement tactics algn exists to avoid.

Cumulative. Participation doesn’t expire, so your level reflects everything you’ve put in over time, not just your most recent month. Each level takes substantially more than the one before, so the upper levels stay small by design.

PARTICIPATION (overview, weighting redacted) · Counted from activity signals, totalled daily · Never from the content of your conversations · Low-effort actions capped per day · Substantive contribution weighted above volume · No streaks, no penalty for time away · Cumulative: levels don’t decay

algn keeps two things apart: your credit balance, which is what you spend, and your participation, which sets your level.

Taking part can earn you credits: the free base amount, plus bonuses as your participation grows. But credits can never earn you participation. Credits you buy go into your balance and nowhere else. They don’t count towards your level, your voting rights or your standing in the community.

That one-way link is the whole design. It’s what stops influence on algn from being bought, and what keeps paying for advanced features from turning into paying for more say.

Each level includes everything before it, and opens more ways to earn credits and bonuses. Governance rights are set out in full on the Governance page.

  • Member: Sera, your private voice AI counterpart. Your memory starts building.
  • Creator: The community unlocks, once your memory knows enough to connect you with the right people. See and comment on governance proposals.
  • Voice: Vote on proposals.
  • Council: More features and more influence. Submit proposals and sit on strategic councils.
  • Steward: Reached through participation, then confirmed by a community vote. The most features and influence. Co-direct major initiatives, with paid work for members taking on real responsibilities.

The people with the most say are the people who have taken part the most.

At the top level, members who bring real skills and take on real responsibility, shaping the product or supporting the community, can be paid for that work.

It is payment for work done. It isn’t a return on credits you’ve bought or on time you’ve spent on the platform, and membership carries no ownership or financial stake in algn.
